Left Tackles are the foundation of everything in football. Today LSU Coach Les Miles picked up one of the best in the country, and he didn’t have to leave his area code to find him. ESPN 150 Wach List Offensive Tackle Lael Collins of Redemptorist High (Baton Rouge, LA) gave his commitment to LSU ths afternoon.
“Today was a great day. Coach Miles was pumped up.” Collins said. “I’m really excited about it too. I’ve been ready to be a Tiger. It was just time. I knew it was time. I have such a great relationship with those coaches it was easy to commit. ”
The decision, and the timing was easy for Collins.
“The main reason I committed now was that it wasn’t a big difference between committing now and committing later. I know where I want to be. I know where I want to play college ball. So I felt like committing now was the right thing. Being around the coaching staff and the team, it’s a great opportunity for me. It’s a special place, and I’m happy I can be a part of it. I’m going to be playing at Tiger Stadium, and being a part of that atmosphere is something I can’t wait to be a part of.”
Collins had a great way of describing why he didn’t feel the need to wait any longer.
“When you meet the right woman, there is no need to tell her, “Her baby, I’ll know if I love you in three months.” If you tell her that, she’ll kick you to the curb. You either know or you don’t.”
Committing with his teammate Jeremy Hill made today even more memorable for Collins.
“It’s very special for both of us to do this together. We’ve played together, and it’s a great feeling to know that if I do my job he can be successful. And to think we will keep doing that in college is great.”
Now Collins wants to continue to be a dominant force, now on the recruiting trail.
“I’m going to encourage the other guys to be a part of what we have going at LSU. Finishing out this year and working on our class in 2011 is very important.”
