ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.—In a reversal of just a year ago, this time it was the LSU Tigers who were excited when one of the best of the Bayou State chose to stay at home rather than follow Nick Saban to the University of Alabama.
All-everything linebacker Kendell Beckwith out of East Feliciana made it official on Friday afternoon at the Under Armour All-American game as in front of his family, friends and a national television audience on ESPN he announced that he will be continuing his football career for Les Miles and the LSU Tigers.
“I’m going to Louisiana State University,” Beckwith said after putting on a purple LSU baseball cap. “They are just a school where I felt the most comfortable at throughout the entire process. It doesn’t matter defensive end or linebacker. It doesn’t really matter to me.”
The 6-3, 228-pound Beckwith is projected to play linebacker once he arrives on campus in June and could compete for early playing time with the departure of Kevin Minter early to the NFL draft.
