St. Augustine Cornerback Tyrann Mathieu got to do today what he has always wanted to do. He became an LSU Tiger.

“Yes sir, I’m a Tiger.” Mathieu told Eye on The Tigers tonight. “Coach Miles brought me in his office after I checked out of camp, and he offered me. I took it on the spot. He told me I was a special player and that I had great skills. He told me that I have what LSU wants. I was real excited. Hearing that made me feel good. I took it on the spot.”

Mathieu camped at LSU over going to the Alabama camp with his teammates. He was hoping for the offer when he arrived, but didn’t want to raise false hopes. “When I first got to camp I wasn’t expecting the offer, but as it went along I saw how I was performing and knew it felt right.”

When he got the offer he knew it was the right thing to do to take it on the spot. “I’m glad it’s over. I’ve wanted to play at LSU since park ball. I’ve been in love with the school and the system forever.” It also doesn’t hurt that his “dream school” is so close to home. “My family is so happy for me. And they’ll get to see me play every game.”

Mathieu is living his dream, and he knew as soon as the offer was extended that his recruiting process was over. “My recruiting is over. I’m done. I’m a Tiger.”

A lifelong memory was made tonight, and Mathieu will remember his commitment forever. “When I told Coach Miles I wanted to commit it put a big smile on his face. He was happy. But really I was more excited.”
