LSU Head Coach Les Miles on the SEC Opener: “We need to improve this week. The caliber of opponent increases, and the game is more important. It’s a conference opponent and a division opponent.”
Miles on Monday’s Bomb Scare on Campus: “It’s the kind of thing where you just don’t know. You rationalize it as not a sincere threat, but I can’t make that determination for everybody that works in this building. Our players certainly can’t show up here, so we kept them away until there was reason to believe this building was not compromised. We did not practice (Monday). That part of the day was lost. Certainly our team will respond, and our preparation won’t be hurt.”
Miles on Auburn: “I thought they played pretty well (against ULM). I always have respect for our opponent. We expect, as we’ve been shown to be true, that we’ll get our opponent’s best shot. We figure that will happen in their stadium. I like our matchups, but we recognize that not long ago they were national champions. This is a very talented football team.”
Miles on playing at Jordan Hare Stadium: “I think it’s a big, beautiful stadium. The people there are very excited about their team. It’s a classic SEC venue. Our team always looks forward to going there and playing in one of the classic environments.”
Miles on the Auburn Defense Under 1st Year Coordinator Brian Van Gorder: “They’re a sound and solid club. I think they’re playing really quality defense, and I suspect we’ve played some really good Auburn defenses around here in the past. This would be one.”
Miles on Auburn Defensive End Corey Lemonier: “He’s very athletic. He plays with a really fast motor. He’s very capable.”
Miles on Playing on the Road: “I think road games are an extension of the personality of the team. If there is a strong personality, I think that those teams play very well on the road. I think a team with a good character and a strength plays well on the road. It’s how they are. It’s the same 100 yards, it’s just a different stadium.”
Miles on Auburn’s Special Teams: “They come after kicks. They press on the kick. You have to recognize that they have a want to get to our specialists.”
